Casino Dene and Alberta's Online Market

Online casino play in Alberta is now a regulated market: AGLC acts as regulator and the Alberta iGaming Corporation runs it. Anyone playing from Cold Lake falls under its rules, and the Two Seasons desk lays them out here one by one.

Who runs the market

Two bodies share the province's online gaming market. AiGC, the Alberta iGaming Corporation, manages it, while AGLC, the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission, holds the regulator's role. Anyone running an online operation in Alberta answers to each of them.

A lawful online operator first needs a registration with AGLC. On top of that comes an operating agreement signed with AiGC. Either step on its own falls short.

Checking a site first

A directory of registered iGaming sites is kept by AiGC at abigaming.ca/players/registered-igaming-sites. Any operator missing from it falls outside regulation. Authorised operators carry the AiGC logo, which can be verified against that directory.

From Casino Dene, Saskatchewan towns lie nearer than Edmonton: St. Walburg is 104.8 km away as the crow flies, so one rule counts here. A registered operator's site allows play only from people physically inside Alberta. Alberta sites turn away anyone beyond the provincial line.

The province's own site

Play Alberta is the province's own gaming site at PlayAlberta.ca; AGLC runs it, and its earnings return to the Government of Alberta. Enrolment in AGLC's Self-Exclusion Program happens solely on the web, through selfexclusion.ca. A person can bar themselves from Alberta's in-person venues, the casinos and racing entertainment centres, from the regulated online gaming sites, or from both. The shortest term is six months, and longer ones last one, two or three years. It applies from the moment of enrolment and holds until the term runs out, with no early exit.

Where the Ad links lead

On the Cold Lake Casino guide, the home page is the single page with paid links, and the Two Seasons desk labels each of them Ad. They number three: a menu button, a block placed after the first screen, and a further block near the foot of that page. Every one leads to the same privately run online casino, a partner that pays the Cold Lake Casino guide a commission. The desk withholds that partner's name, and the arrangement may move to another partner.

The Two Seasons desk offers no guarantee for that partner. The AiGC directory at abigaming.ca is the place where any site, this partner among them, can be checked.

Questions by the lake

Can someone in Meadow Lake play on an Alberta site?

Alberta sites accept only players who are physically in Alberta. Meadow Lake is on the Saskatchewan side, 119.5 km from Casino Dene in a straight line, so play from there is outside the rule.

Where can a reader confirm that a site is authorised?

AiGC keeps a list of registered iGaming sites at abigaming.ca/players/registered-igaming-sites, and that is the place to look. An operator not on it falls outside Alberta's regulated market. Sites with authorisation carry the AiGC logo as well.

Which body operates Play Alberta?

Alberta also has a site of its own: Play Alberta, at PlayAlberta.ca, operated by AGLC. The money it brings in is paid to the Government of Alberta.
